A Moberly man wanted for the December 11 assault of a police officer is in custody today.

Cody Kitchen, 25, was wanted in connection with an assault on a Mobery Police officer after he fled the scene earlier this month. Kitchen also had two warrants for his arrest in Randolph County.

Officers responded to the 200 block of S. Morley Street after an off-duty officer reported seeing Kitchen at the location. Upon arrival, authorities found that Kitchen had gotten into a vehicle.

As officers stopped the vehicle, Kitchen got out and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers took Kitchen into custody near Sturgeon and Burkhart Streets.

Kitchen was charged with second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and felony resisting arrest relating to the December 11 incident.

He was additionally charged with probation violation for an original charge of second-degree burglary, felony stealing, fraudulent use of credit/debit device, failure to appear on an original charge of possession of marijuana and failure to stop for a stop sign.

Kitchen was unable to post bond and was transferred to the Randolph County Jail.
