ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis police are searching for a thief who stole a car with a baby inside.

It happened Tuesday evening when 21-year-old Tiara Smith of Florissant stopped at a gas station and left her 1-year-old daughter, Aniya Davis, strapped in her car seat with the car running while Smith went inside.

A young man jumped into the car and sped away. A police officer who was around the corner saw it happen and began a chase. Another customer offered a ride to Smith and they followed police.

The thief crashed a few blocks later, then got out and ran. The baby was not hurt.
