COLUMBIA -- A Columbia man is awaiting formal charges after his arrest on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor, promoting child pornography and possession of child pornography Tuesday.
Charles DeCarr III, 39, was arrested Tuesday morning after an investigation originating in Ohio implicated him in the crimes.
Authorities say that agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation found child pornography on a cell phone seized in Ohio, and those pictures were found to have originated from a cell phone in Mid-Missouri. When further investigation indicated that the sender also took the pictures, police identified DeCarr as a suspect.
The Boone County Sheriff's Cyber Crime's Task Force obtained a search warrant Tuesday morning. Two children, ages two and five, identified as being in the photographs were taken into protective custody. During the search police found evidence indicating that the photos sent to Ohio were taken at that residence, and then proceeded to place DeCarr under arrest.
DeCarr is currently being held at the Boone County Jail pending formal charges.
