COLUMBIA, Mo. --  Earlier Wednesday, University Hospital unveiled its newest addition to its 'Staff for Life' fleet.

That addition includes technology that basically turns the copter into a mobile intensive care unit.

Officials with university hospital say that the new copter include several safety features that are almost becoming standards in the air-medical industry.

It's an aircraft that comes capable of night vision goggle operation, has an autopilot to decrease the workload for the pilots as they fly,” said Dr. Jeffrey Coughenour, the co-medical director of the helicopter service. “It has both some on-board weather radar, terrain avoidance, then some in-air collision avoidance software, that again, helps the pilots identify obstacle or other aircraft."

The unveiling of the new helicopter also coincided with the 30th anniversary celebration of University Hospital's first air ambulance service.
