The charges are for one count of animal abuse and one count of improper disposal of animal remains

A Maries County man has been charged after a case of animal neglect.

George Davis has been charged with one count of animal abuse and one count of improper disposal of animal remains. Both charges are misdemeanor charges, not felonies. The prosecutor said that's because officials determined there was not intentional harm done.

Last week, the Maries County Sheriff's Department and the Humane Society found more than 100 animals on his property north of Vienna.

Authorities found malnourished animals without food and water. They also found at least six dead horses, as well the remains of cows, pigs and goats.

If convicted, Davis faces up to a year in the county jail and a $1,000 fine for each count.
