The construction worker injured Monday afternoon in Columbia remains in University Hospital.

The family of Brian Heimerick said he is undergoing pelvic surgery Tuesday. The family says he was awake some Monday night and did not suffer head injuries from Monday accident.

Columbia Firefighters responded a private construction work site for a report of a man laying on the ground near a piece of construction equipment.

Heimerick's family members said they were told he was on the back of a vehicle carrying concrete pipes when a cable broke and the pipes rolled off. Firefighter officials said a 24-inch diameter concrete pipe rolled on top of Heimerick.

University Hospital said Heimerick is in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
