Cole County health officials believe that someone at a local hospital has a presumptive case of E. coli.

"The case of presumptive E. coli was just recognized late yesterday afternoon, so it is now at the state public health laboratory for further testing, and that's really all the information we have at this point," said Dr. Marie Peoples with the Cole County health department.

Another case involving another bacteria producing what is called a Shiga Toxin, which produces similar symptoms to when someone is infected with E. coli.

"Similar illness effects that they cause on the body. They both have the same pathways, as people become infected with both shiga toxins and E. coli through the mouth."

Boone County health officials have also said one more case of E. coli has cropped up their as well, their fifth this year. they are asking people to reconsider consuming raw dairy products.

"So we ask people to stay away from unpasteurized dairy products. If you do want topurchase it, please consider pasteurizing at home, and understand the dangers, especially to children, the elderly, pregnant woman, and those with compromised immune systems," said one official at the Boone County Health Department.
