JEFFERSON CITY – For many people, it's something they would rather not talk about.
"It hurt a little bit," said Mike Moscato, a tax payer and owner of River City Florist in Jefferson City.
Yes, it's tax season, and although calling it their favorite may be a bit a stretch, they know those 1040s won't fill out themselves. But this year, they have a little bit more wiggle room to get everything filed by deadline.
"This year it's April 17th instead of April15th, and the reason that is that the state wanted to match the federal tax deadline, and the federal government moved it because of the celebration of Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia,” said Ted Farnan, Director of Communication for the the Missouri Department of Revenue.
If you still haven't paid your taxes and need some more time, you can always file for an extension with the IRS, but the Missouri Department of Revenue says even if you can pay a little bit on deadline, that's better than nothing.
Even if you get an extension, that does not remove the obligation that you still need to get the payment in on time. But we always suggest, that, even if you can't make the full payment, that you make as big as payment as possible, by the deadline," said Farnan.
Those that have filed their taxes already are just glad it's done, like Mike Moscato.
"You know, it's one of those things you have to do, and this year I got it done early, and I'm okay with it."
