COLUMBIA -- It was a big sports weekend here in mid-Missouri. The Tigers took on the Kansas Jayhawks for what could be their last game together.
To add to the excitement, Mizzou hosted ESPN Gameday earlier Saturday morning.
The basketball court was transformed into a live studio, filled with cameras, production crews, and of course, MU spirit.
“I'm a big MU fan”, said Kendall Brandt, who brought his 11-year old son to his first Tigers Game.
"My son's never been, so I thought it would be a good experience for him to come out and root the Tigers on,” he said.
Throughout the two hour taping, fans cheered, danced, and smiled, hoping they would be seen on national television.
ESPN Gameday hosts said they were quite impressed by the energy in the place.
“It's one of the best atmospheres we've had. I thought they were really into the show, they reacted at the proper time and had a lot of fun with it,” said ESPN Analyst Rece Davis,
While Missouri might have moved to the SEC, fans and television personalities alike hoped that it wouldn't be the last meeting between the two rivals.
“I hope that Kansas steps ups and wants to play us next year. I think it would be a good rivalry and it shouldn't die.” Tiger fan Zach Huckabey said.
Rece Davis said that the rivalry is important, not only to fans, but the game as a whole.
"I would really like to see cooler heads prevail, and this rivalry to be continued. The game needs it, the fans need it,” he said
It was the first time ESPN's College Gameday had come to Columbia for basketball.
