JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- A Jefferson City police officer is under investigation Monday for a hit and run crash. It’s suspected alcohol was involved.

According to the police department, officers took Rachael Barnard, 35, into custody Monday at about 11:33 a.m. for a crash in the 1600 block of Tanner Bridge Road.

A caller told police someone driving an orange vehicle hit a parked pickup truck and left the scene. Just three minutes later, officers found the vehicle in a parking lot off Flora Drive.

She’s suspected of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated. Prosecutors have not filed charges at this time.

Barnard was off duty at the time. Captain Bob Cynova with Jefferson City police told KRCG there is an internal investigation going on, but he can’t comment on her employment status given the recent nature of the incident.
