The beginning stages of jury selection has begun for a Columbia man charged with killing 4 family members in Kansas.
James Kraig Kahler is scheduled for trial on August 8. The former Columbia Public Works Director faces four counts of capital murder. He has pleaded not guilty.
He’s accused of killing his ex-wife, Karen, their two teenage daughters, Emily and Lauren, and his ex-wife’s grandmother, Dorothy Wight. The killings happened Thanksgiving weekend in November 2009 in Wight’s home in Burlingame, Kansas.
Our CBS affiliate in Topeka reports attorneys questioned nearly 300 potential jurors on Monday. The group was so big they had to meet at a local high school because the county courthouse was too small.
The juror questionnaire, which is usually a page long, was 20 pages.
James Kahler was there for the questioning. He sat in the school’s gym during the process.
