Seven-month-old Lane Schaefer is home from the hospital after he was injured at his daycare last month. However doctors tell the family Lane may never regain his vision.

Prosecutors charged daycare provider Shelley Richter of Taos, Mo. with felony child abuse.

Family members said that he returns to the hospital daily for physical therapy. It is not yet known what the long-term effects of the brain injuries will be.

Doctors told investigators Lane's injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Richter said she tripped over another child and dropped Lane on a concrete floor.

Friends and family plan to have a benefit Kick Ball Tournament Sunday to help raise money for Lane. The benefit will take place at the Field of Legends Sports Complex just north of Jefferson City at 9 a.m.

Teams raised money to participate in a kickball tournament; others could bid on items in a silent auction

Organizers said the money will help pay for baby Lane's medical bills.

If you won’t be able to attend the benefit, you can make a donation to the “Baby Lane Recovery Fund” setup at the Legends Bank in Jefferson City.
