PFC Adam Thomas graduated from La Plata High School in 2000. He started basic training at Fort Benning, GA, on September 10, 2001 - one day before the world changed forever. He was stationed at Fort Drum, NY. PFC Thomas served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He deployed in July of 2003 for his second tour after being home on leave and visiting friends and family in Chicago and La Plata and attending his aunt's wedding where he walked his grandmother down the aisle in his full dress uniform. While on a mountain top in Afghanistan, Thomas and two other soldiers came under attack in an ambush. Thomas and one other soldier were fatally shot. Coalition forces from a nearby firebase then engaged in a battle with the enemy. Thomas was laid to rest in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, on September 10, 2003 - exactly two years after starting basic training. PFC Adam Thomas is the son of Jeff and Cindy Thomas of Purdin, MO, and Ellen Thomas of Hannibal, MO. He is the grandson of Jerry and Peggy Thomas of La Plata, MO. All gave some, some gave all.
