After a few minutes Milo finally calmed down during his bath.

I don’t mean to sound braggy, but I’ve always thought Milo was one heck of a cute dog (who doesn’t think this about their pets though?!) … didn’t think he could get much more adorable, but I was wrong!  He is now one handsome fella thanks to Beth at Grooming Unlimited!

We went for our very first trip to the groomer on Saturday.  I gotta be honest, I was a little worried.  Milo handles baths pretty well, but it was the drying part I was worried about.  He’s been kinda skittish lately, so I wasn’t sure how he would handle it.

Luckily, Milo’s first trip to the groomer could not have been more ideal.  He was the only dog in there and I got to stand right by his side the entire time.  That turned out to be a very good thing in the end!

Milo is a shedder… big time.  The bed, the couch, the rug… everywhere he lays his head! So we opted for the de-shedding treatment.  Beth explained that they use a special shampoo and conditioner that promotes shedding.  I was all about it.

We plopped Milo in the tub, lathered him up, and so started our first grooming!  He was a little shaky during the bath, but he didn’t cry or bark.

I also learned from Beth that dogs like their bath water a little cooler than we do.  She also said to spend more time rinsing out the conditioner than you do the shampoo.  Keep those tips in mind next time Rover gets a rinsing!

Our next step was a risky one.  Beth uses a blow dryer, if you will, to dry off the pups, but this one is much louder, bigger, and more powerful than the ones we ladies use on our hair.

It’s comparable to the sound a vacuum cleaner makes, and that’s where our problem lied. Lately just the sight of our vacuum cleaner has terrified Milo to the point where he makes, um, … a mess.

So our choice with the newly-bathed dog was to either put him in a kennel with some fans on him, which could take a while, or take the risk of using the high-powered blow dryer, and possibly have a puppy mess on our hands.

I decided to go with the blow dryer.  And honestly, I’m glad I did!

Milo was shaky in the beginning and remained just a little uneasy throughout, but as long as I was right by his side, he was A-OK.  And we did not have any puppy messes, yay! (You have no idea how glad I was!)  Maybe that will make him a little less scared of the awful vacuum cleaner.

After about 15 minutes of drying it was off to the brushing table where Milo lost his old self… in fur, that is.  You would not believe how much fur came off that dog.

Beth used a special brush made by Kong, you know the company that makes those rubber toys you put the treat in and it drives dogs nuts.  It’s made out of the same material and really grips the dead hairs.

Beth brushed him for about 25 minutes and look at the result…

Incredible! And trust me, there was more on the floor.  She probably could have brushed him for hours more and the hair would have kept falling out.  I will be buying one of those brushes for sure!  And again, Milo was uneasy at first, but by the end I really think he was lovin' that brushin'!

Beth topped off his day at the groomer with a little hanky around his neck.  He looked so darn cute! :)

Milo’s coat was smooth and soft already, but she made it silky smooth and very light feeling, and the best part, no shedding!

Beth was great.  I highly recommend her!  She was great with Milo and knew how to keep him calm.

If you’re in the market for a groomer (and why not support a local business?!) make sure to check out Grooming Unlimited!  I can tell you this will not be Milo’s last trip there.
