“John Carter” is largely based on stories published in 1912, ultimately released in a novel called “A Princess of Mars”. There has been much discussion that James Cameron’s ultra-popular film “Avatar” was also inspired by the same stories. While there are similar themes, “John Carter” seems to be a much more fateful representation and “Avatar” took many liberties and creative reroutes.
