COLUMBIA, Mo. - A woman experienced minor smoke irritation to her eyes after a trailer caught fire Tuesday.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to 3501 Clark Lane, lot 73, at 2:26 p.m. when several callers reported that the trailer, which had no smoke alarms, was on fire.

Four minutes later, crews were on the scene and saw that heavy fire and smoke were coming from the back of the structure. Equipped with a pre-connected hoseline, they entered through the front door and encountered heavy fire in the back bedroom.

Crews brought the situation under control in 12 minutes, containing the fire to the back bedroom and adjacent bathroom. Another hour was spent clearing the damage, including burned drywall and charred insulation. Three fire engines, a ladder and a rescue squad responded to the fire.

The woman was evaluated by medical crews at the scene and refused transportation to the hospital.

Damages were estimated at $30,000. Investigators determined improperly discarded smoking materials caused the fire.
