President Obama announced this morning his proposed plans to curb gun violence. This announcement comes after calls for stricter gun control legislation in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre.

Obama said in his address that "if America worked harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, there would be fewer atrocities like the one that occurred in Newtown."

Gun and ammunition shop owners have seen an increase in sales since gun control became a hot topic in Washington.

"I would say the reasoning behind is not knowing what kind of executive orders are gonna be passed," Dog Alley, owner of Ammo Alley in Hartsburg, said.

Similar sales increases have been seen nationwide.

In central Texas, gun owner Gary Hartle said, "People are scared about what's coming in terms of gun control laws...I think that people are getting guns and ammunition while they can."

Alley says that there are other factors contributing to gun violence besides actual access to the weapons.

"Mental illness being a big part of the whole conversation, that needs to be something that they can look into," he said.
