Fireworks are the essential part of any 4th of July celebration. Check out where you can see the big shows or what you need to know if you plan on staying home with your fireworks.
Firework shows in mid-Missouri
Reports from across the country and here in Missouri, cities and towns are cancelling fireworks shows because of the bad economy.
Fortunately, cities in the Mid-Missouri area are up as usual for July 4 celebrations.
Jefferson City's “Salute to America” fireworks show will go on as usual this year. The two day event kicks off Friday on the grounds of the capitol.
The recession didn't affect Columbia's fire in the sky show either. Organizers are gearing up for another show this year at Memorial Stadium.
Fulton's Country Club is hosting their fireworks display as scheduled also this year.
At the Lake, Lodge of the Four Seasons, Tan-Tar-A and Bear Bottom Resort are all still putting on their fireworks shows.
Firework shows in Eldon, Holts Summit and Moberly all say their shows are good to go this year.
Fireworks at home
But while the cities are still lighting the skies with fireworks, it doesn't mean it's always legal for you to do so.
Police and fire departments want to remind everyone that it is illegal to light off any fireworks within the city limits of: Jefferson City, Columbia, Fulton, Osage Beach and Lake Ozark.
Moberly, people are permitted to light off fireworks between July 2 and July 5 as long as they're shot off safely.
In Holts Summit, it is legal to shoot off fireworks between restricted dated and times:
June 20 - 30 between 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
July 1 -3 between 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
July 4 between 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
July 5 - 10 between 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Violations of these restriction in Holts Summit could go to court.
However if you live outside city limits, the State Fire Marshal's office says it is legal to light-off fireworks.
