A driver whose tractor trailer crashed Tuesday morning said he may have fallen asleep.

Jefferson City police responded at 10:15 a.m to the 2100 block of US Highway 50 east, where the 2010 tractor trailer had run off the road and into the woods.

Authorities determined that the tractor trailer went off the right side of the road, striking the guardrail. It continued east, riding against the guardrail until it ended. The tractor trailer then went down a grass embankment and into the woods on the south side of the road.

The Missouri Department of Transportation restricted traffic to one lane for about four hours while the tractor trailer was towed from the woods.

The driver, 43-year-old Joseph Troxel of Homedale, Idaho, was not injured.
