POPLAR BLUFF (AP) -- A southeast Missouri man is facing charges for allegedly attacking his parents with an aluminum baseball bat.

KFVS-TV reports that Carl and Vicki Jenkins of Poplar Bluff are both in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital. Their son, Matthew Jenkins, is charged with two counts of domestic assault and is being held in the Butler County Jail.

Authorities say the attack happened Tuesday. Matthew Jenkins initially told police he came home to find his parents had been beaten. But police say Jenkins later confessed to the attack.

Police did not discuss a motive.
