ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) -- A St. Louis man who was 15 years old when he took part in a St. Charles County homicide has pleaded guilty to murder.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/TuIb9i ) 18-year-old Ron Rico Patton told a judge on Wednesday he fired the shot that killed Daniel Brennan on July 13, 2010.

Patton told Circuit Judge Ted House he intended to rob the 23-year-old victim but panicked and opened fire.

Investigators said Brennan, of Wentzville, was attacked by three men after going to an apartment complex to buy heroin.

Patton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges and received a 24-year sentence.

A second suspect in the killing was sentenced last year to 30 years, while the third was convicted in September and sentenced to life in prison.
