COLUMBIA -- Lords and ladies in Columbia enjoyed the nice weather this weekend by dressing up in period costume and taking in a renaissance festival.

Many took in the sights and sounds of medieval Europe at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Attendees could do some shopping at booths, get exotic food, or just enjoy the live performances.

Some participants took part in a medieval jousting game, using foam versions of historical weapons.

Even if you don't joust, fair-goers say the renaissance festival has broad appeal.

"I think it's something different,” said participant Thomas “Lorell” Wall. “I think it's something that people don't see everyday. I think it's an opportunity to peek back in time."

The week-end long festival wrapped up Sunday afternoon. This is the fourth year for the event.
