JEFFERSON CITY -- Thousands of people crowded the Capital City Saturday for the Downtown Association's Annual Harvest Fest.

Parents and kids got to take home free pumpkins, see performances, and check out antique farm equipment.

Games were also set up and the money raised from them will go to help the United Way.

The Governor’s mansion has traditionally been decorated in a Halloween theme, but this year the Nixon’s went simply with fall. But kids still showed up in costume.

The governor’s event featured an apple cider press, kettle corn and live music in addition to tours of the mansion.

His staff says over 3,000 visited the mansion. Festival organizers say around 5,000 turned out for the festival.

Gov's Mansion such a dissapointment

I noticed a significant drop in the number of people around the mansion since the Governor did away with the fun stuff. No big giant talking pumpkin like last year, no Halloween stuff. We went through the mansion and the decorating was horrible. Just some mums scattered about here and there. Why did they bother even having it open, it was SO boring. Just sad. Last year was so awesome with the decor...I still would like a REAL explanation as to why he "decided to go in a different direction". As I said before kids dont care about "fall harvest" they care about Halloween. I hope he brings it back next year!
