JEFFERSON CITY -- It's the end of an era for one CBS soap opera.

Guiding Light will air it's final episode Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. on KRCG, channel 13.

After more than 70 years, the crazy characters on Guiding Light are saying goodbye. And their loyal fans are also bidding the soap, sayanara.

Holts Summit resident Goldie Holzer's been tuning in for 15 years. Her mom got her into the soap.

"You watch 'em to see what they're going to do to each other,” said Goldie Holzer.

A lot's changed since the show began on the radio, back in 1937. It moved again to TV in 1952. Technology has improved over the years.

"The old way, it was just on a set,” said Holzer. “You knew it was on a set, and the music was really dorky. Now they film outside, almost like movies."

But as much as things have changed on the soap, some things stay the same.

"The characters remain true to form,” said Holzer. “The bad guys remain the bad guys, or they go through a transition where you think they're good, and then they go back to being bad."

Guiding Light has been a daily mirror for American society over the years, depicting attitudes on war, discrimination against women, civil rights, and much more. But it's the show's main characters fans tune in for.

"I like Reeva and Josh,” said Holzer. “Of course they're the main ones. They gotten back together so many times i can't even count."

Kevin Bacon, Joan Collins, and Taye Diggs all made appeareces on the show.

So how will it all end?

"I think they're just gonna have everyone be a happily ever after thing,” said Holzer.

The show's producers and writers seem to agree, saying in an interview that “all the people that should be together will be together.”
