At over 18,000 acres this lake is the largest reservoir in north Missouri and is host to an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. And although it is a large lake, it offers a completely different atmosphere than Lake of the Ozarks. With no private docks and only 2 marinas, it’s a far quieter atmosphere for those seeking more of an “outdoor experience.”
In addition to fishing, visitors have access to campgrounds as well as hiking and equestrian trails. In fact, the Joanna Trail was recently named among the nation’s Top 25 hiking trails. And 2 Mark Twain Lake Campgrounds were listed in the “Top 100 Family Campgrounds” – the only 2 selected in the entire state of Missouri!
As the season for fishing and camping comes to a close, hunting begins. The lake’s 285 miles of shoreline are filled with deer, wild turkey and waterfowl, not to mention quail, rabbit, dove and squirrel. (sorry, no off road vehicles allowed) Visitors can also shoot their firearms at 3 covered shooting pavilions.
