Go the Distance

Nobody wants to have the shortest drive off the tee. Here are a few simple tips that might help you find that magic to increase your distance off the tee.

It all starts with the set-up. Most of the drivers being built today have larger heads and a longer shaft to help the ball up more quickly. You need to catch the ball on the upswing, so play the ball off your left toe, take a wider stance and drop your right shoulder.

Finish the backswing. In anticipation of trying to hit the ball harder, most players get quick and never complete their backswing, leading to bad timing and rhythm. Make sure to turn your left shoulder away from the target and let your weight transfer to the inside of your back foot.

Let it go. Don’t hold anything back. A full release will occur when you swing completely to your follow-through position. Allow your right elbow to drop down while your hands and arms naturally swing to the finish.
