Pairing Foods With Wine
Pairing foods with wines is very much like discovering a new cookbook. Just as the right combination of ingredients complements each other to create a gourmet dish, pairing the right wine with a meal creates a combination that enhances the experience of both the food and the wine.
Along those same lines, just as a recipe doesn’t have to be complex to be mouth-wateringly good, you don’t have to be a wine connoisseur or executive chef to enjoy the benefits of wine pairing.
A basic understanding of the food, the wine and how the flavors in each interact can make it easy to make successful pairings.
Three Key Points
To keep in mind when selecting the food are
1. The food being paired;
2. The cooking method of the food
3. Any additional flavors or sauces
The one rule to follow is by beginning your pairings such as delicate wines with delicate flavors, medium-bodied wines with medium-weight or flavors, and so on. To help keep things simple as you get started, we’ve put together a guide. These are really just good guidelines to follow, sometimes a pairing may work just by matter of opinion. The thing to keep in mind with pairings is nothing is an absolute rule and the more you practice and try new wines the more accustomed you will be to successful pairings.
