Since opening in 2007, we've been warmly received as the place for a great round of golf and the hottest new community on the grow!

The Club at Old Hawthorne sits on 631 acres of what was once a horse farm, hence the horse featured in our logo. So, where stallions once romped and homed the rolling hills, today golfers stride manicured fairways and families select wooded lots to put down their own roots.

The original portion of the clubhouse was built in 1938 as an exact replica of President Andrew Jackson's home, "The Hermitage."

We remodeled the interior, increasing its space from 6,000 to 30,000 square feet, with many of the original hardwood floors buffed to a new gleam.

We converted sitting rooms to offices, but for the most part kept the rooms intact. The first two rooms you see as you enter - a dining room and living room - were brought up to modern code but outfitted to reflect their Colonial roots.

A great place for you to call home.

Old Hawthorne caters to a variety of lifestyles, offering single-family lots, estate lots, various styles of condominiums, residential/commercial areas and features an Arthur Schaupeter-designed 18-hole championship golf course with a full range of amenities.

Our location provides quick access to downtown, Highway 63 and Interstate 70, making it easy to play a fun round of golf before heading to work.

Golf memberships and home sites are selling now, and availability is limited.  For real estate information, click here, or call (573) 256-3113.  For golf information or to schedule a tour, click here, or call Cara at (573) 442-5280 ext. 4 today!

Question
Can your course accommodate golfers of all skill levels?
Answer

Five sets of tees assures every skill-level of golfer is accommodated.

Given the appropriate tees, the golf course can play easy, with the large fairways and rather large greens.

However, there's plenty of trouble to grab you if you get a little over-confident. There are multiple holes where you can cut off yardage or even drive the green, but if you don't pull it off you could be looking at double bogey or worse.

Question
Does your golf pro have any tips he can share?
Answer

Travis' tip for playing Old Hawthorne.

Right out of the club house, you'll be taken by our square, bentgrass tees that frame our holes and give them character. On Number One, the fairway disappears over a slight incline to the green waiting at the bottom of the hill next to grindstone creek.

A drive down the left hand side will cut off more yardage, however a lateral hazard lurks if you go too far left. There's plenty of room to the right side of the fairway. You'll have a downhill lie to a green that sits in a bottom. Do not fire at the back right pin and plan on having a birdie putt.

Travis' fave four.

Hole #15 is the best par-5 because it is a true risk/reward hole.

“If a good enough drive is hit, the green can be reached in two shots. However, if a lay-up is required, the second shot can be a bit touchy and the third can be even more difficult. The green is undulating and difficult to two-putt if you're trying to go to #16 tee quickly. This hole tests all aspects of your game.”

Whether you're a low-handicapper or complete beginner, The Club at Old Hawthorne is a delight for the traditionalist looking for Old-World ambiance, shot values and classic “risk-reward” golf.

Best par-3 . . .

is #2, because of its options and difficulty. Playing 234 yards from the back tee and 212 from the men's tee, this hole has a green that runs away from you on the back half. A bentgrass area down the middle and right side of the green gives you the option of running a shot on to the green, while a bunker that runs from the front left around the left side of the green forces you to carry something high and soft.

Hole #9 presents Old Hawthorne's biggest challenge.
From the back tees, Number 9 is a 575 yard, par-5 and plays dead uphill.

“If you drive it in the fairway, you're left with a lay-up to a split fairway with two bunkers ready to catch a stray shot,” says Travis. “Between the split fairway lies trouble in the form of a native area that is hard to escape from."

“The green is huge and it's hard to judge yardage on your third shot because you can usually just see flagstick and not much of the putting surface. The green has some severe undulations and a large hogback that can throw even the most well-struck shots astray. Putting is no easy task with the green's size and rolling mounds.”

Test your putting skill at #16.

Hole #16 without a doubt is the most difficult green. Playing only 171 yards from the back tees and 135 from the men's tee, this green demands that you hit the correct quadrant. If you hit one of the other sections of green, three-putting is almost a guarantee and four-putting is a possibility. A severe shelf in the back left and a punch bowl in the front middle make this green scary every time.

Enjoy!
