Whether you're a local or a visitor just passing through, come in and find out what we're about.

If you've never been in the downtown area, you should take the time to drive through it. We're only a couple blocks east of the majestic Capitol building at the corner of Monroe and Capitol Streets. This beautiful Methodist church is more than 100 years old and in the heart of historic downtown Jefferson City.

But while the setting, the building and the history are great, that's not what makes First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City worth visiting.

It's the people.

It's how God is active, real and alive in each ministry of the church.

First United Methodist Church is a welcoming community, growing in God's grace, seeking to be active followers of Jesus Christ.  Worship with Us!

About Our Services:
First United Methodist Church offers four worship services each weekend.

SATURDAY - 6 p.m.
A small, less formal service in the Chapel with hymns, liturgy, preaching and an opportunity to share personal prayer praises and concerns.

SUNDAY - 8:30 a.m.
Traditional worship service (hymns, choirs, liturgy and preaching) with an emphasis on prayer praises and concerns.  Communion is served weekly.

SUNDAY - 9:45 a.m.
A modern service with cutting edge music, drama and dynamic preaching.

SUNDAY - 10:50 a.m.
Traditional worship service (hymns, choirs, liturgy and preaching)

Got Kids?
Sunday Morning Children's Ministry - Babies and Toddlers
Nursery care is available for all children 3 years old and younger during all the Sunday morning worship services from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Located on the main level (second floor).

In the nursery we use the Quiet Call Nursery Paging system. This system loans parents a vibrating pager which discretely lets them know if they are needed in the nursery. Pagers are returned when children are picked up.

Children

Children are welcome in any worship service! Children's packets are available at the entrance to each service filled with activities to keep little hands busy. You will also find Children's Moments every other Sunday during the service for children to come forward and hear a lesson just for them. On the alternating Sundays, Children's Church is held in the Chapel. Children will be dismissed from the worship service after the prayer time in the 8:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. services. Children learn about the scripture of the day through storytelling, games and crafts. Children are brought back into worship for Communion at 8:30 a.m.  At the 10:50 a.m. service children are picked up in the Chapel after the service is over.

Questions & Answers
Question
Where and when are the church's services?
Answer
First United Methodist Church is in the midst of historic downtown Jefferson City at 201 Monroe Street (the corner of Capitol and Monroe Streets). We offer four worship services each weekend. The Saturday evening service at 6 p.m. is held in the Chapel. Sunday morning worship at 8:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. is held in the Sanctuary, and the NOW (New Outlook Worship) service is at 9:45 a.m. in the Christian Life Center.
Question
What are your services like?
Answer

The services focus mostly on worship and preaching. We share some announcements, express our hearts to God through music, and hear about God's word.

The Saturday 6 p.m. service has a "small church" feel to it, where personal prayer, concerns and praises are shared aloud. The 8:30 a.m. service is a traditional United Methodist service, with hymns, choirs, and liturgy, however, there is a stronger emphasis on prayer time and Communion is served weekly.  The 10:50 a.m. service is a traditional United Methodist service that include hymns, choirs and traditional liturgy. The music and media elements at the 9:45 a.m. service are modern. The sermon in all 4 services is identical.

Both before and after the services on Sunday morning, the lobby and Christian Life Center provide a place for fellowship and a chance to get to know people you've met as you grab a cup of coffee.

Question
How long are your services?
Answer
All worship services are approximately one hour long.
Question
What should I wear?
Answer
Feel free to wear whatever clothes make you feel most comfortable. The Saturday evening and 9:45 a.m. services are a bit more casual than the 8:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. services. We care more that you're here rather than what you wear.
Question
What about my kids?
Answer

A staffed nursery is available during all the Sunday morning worship services. In the nursery we use the Quiet Call Nursery Paging system. This system loans parents a vibrating pager which discretely lets them know if they are needed in the nursery. Pagers are returned when children are picked up.

Children ages 3 through grade 3, have the opportunity every other week to participate in Children's Church or Children's Moments. Children's Moments occur during worship at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. services in the Sanctuary.  Children's Church leads the children into the Chapel where they have their own worship experience.

Children's Packets are also available for children at Sunday morning worship services. In these packets children will find fun, quiet activities to do during the worship services.

Children's Church and Children's Moments do not occur on the first Sunday of each month at 10:50 a.m. when we have Communion.

Parents are always welcome to attend and observe any of our children's ministries.

Question
What about Sunday School?
Answer

Sunday School classes are offered for all ages (Pre-K through adult), at 9:45 a.m. More information is available on the Children, Youth and Adult Ministry pages.

Adult Sunday School classes offer in-depth exploration of Biblical truths and contemporary issues that affect your life.

LOGOS is offered Wednesday evenings from 5:15 - 7:30 p.m. for Pre-K through 5th graders during the school year. The program is a Bible-centered children's ministry. More information is available on the Children's Ministry page.

Adult Bible studies and small groups meet at various times throughout the week. More information is available on the Adult Ministry page.

Question
Do you have Communion and how often?
Answer
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated each week at the 8:30 a.m. worship service and the first Saturday/Sunday of each month at all other services. The United Methodist Church practices open Communion, meaning you do not have to be a member of First United Methodist Church or of any church to participate in Holy Communion. It is the Lord's Table which, we believe, is open to everyone!
