In Hermann, it's their calling card.

"You can find, from the old-fashioned traditional German sommer sausage, mettwurst, bockwurst, bratwursts...," said Olan Stemme, a co-chair of the 33rd Annual Hermann Wurstfest.

S
ausages of all shapes, sizes, and who can forget those wrapped in bacon?

"It's a long tradition of showcasing the and science of making old-fashioned German sausages," said Stemme.

Several professional and amateur meat purists showed up with their best stuff the event in hopes of beating the competition.

This year we have a record number of entries. Well over 200 individual entries in the sausage competition," said Stemme

The vendor's aren't the only ones taking it seriously. Judging the meats is a whole other animal.

Among the judges was KRCG's very own weatherman Zach Paul, who took his duty seriously.

"[I've been] chewing on meat for four hours," said Paul.

Even those from Germany got to experience a little bit of home in the heartland, like Frank Kammer, a German native.

"I'm originally from Germany and this is actually a really nice festival. The sausage festival...wine is good...and it's a great day," Kammer said.

And others went out to celebrate special events, like birthday girl Meagan Blase.

"It's sausage and wine and mustaches...it's fantastic," said Blase.

With so many combinations that can't be beat, it's no wonder folks here think those who miss it are er spinnt, or - they're a little bit nuts.

True to his heritage, Kammer agrees.

"Everything is really nice here. People see us. Come here to Hermann."
