The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the first crash happened at 7:07 a.m. Saturday when a pickup truck's driver lost control on an ice-covered stretch of Interstate 49, south of Nevada. The truck went off the road, down an embankment and overturned.

The patrol identified the victim as 7-year-old Landry Heese, of Carthage. The driver of the truck and three other passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.]

The second crash happened less than 15 minutes later and about 30 miles to the east. The patrol says a car drove into the path of a tractor-trailer on an ice-covered stretch of Missouri 32, west of Stockton. The car's driver, 62-year-old Mona Purtle, of El Dorado Springs, was killed.
