Keep your car’s tires inflated properly
9 out of every 10 vehicles have improperly inflated tires
1 of every 5 has at least one tire with too little tread for safe use
1 of every 20 tires is in danger of failure
1 of every 5 shows unusual tread wear due to improper alignment, inflation or balance
Tire care is often the most neglected area of vehicle maintenance yet it’s one of the easiest. Tire pressure is a major factor in determining the life of your car’s tires as well as how well they perform.
Since tires are no small investment, it makes sense to help make them last as long as possible.
All you gotta do is …
- Rotate and balance the tires at least every 5,000-8,000 miles or 5-6 months
- Check the tire pressure every fuel stop or 2 weeks
- Check the tread depth at least every 6,000 miles or 6 months
- Clear the tread of nails, stones, debris and bulges as necessary
To check your tread depth, slip a Lincoln penny into several grooves with the head upside down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head in 2 adjacent grooves, the tire has less than 1/16” tread left and should be replaced.
In your glove box at all times you should have an accurate tire pressure gauge.
Caution! Never exceed the maximum pressure indicated by the manufacturer!
