Obviously no one ever wants to go through the trauma of waking up in the middle of the night to a house fire.

In this situation, most people are not aware of just how dangerous the smoke of the fire can be.

Fire smoke inhalation is obviously dangerous in any quantity. However, too much smoke inhalation will in turn put too much carbon monoxide into your lungs.

Carbon Monoxide prohibits hemoglobin from transferring oxygen into your body and then carbon dioxide out of your body. Any time of repeated exposure will cause brain damage. It's usually prevalent that you would pass out before dying of smoke inhalation.

However, it has been said that approximately 15 minutes of straight smoke (0% oxygen) could possibly kill a person and 5-10 minutes could cause permanent brain damage. These figures definitely vary on the amount of oxygen in the room, if there is more oxygen, then you would have more time of course but not much.

During a fire there is constant burning of oxygen, therefore as a fire continues to rage, the more oxygen gets removed from the room and the more dangerous it can be to the body.
