Some are standard fare and even understandable, like coins, stamps, vintage glassware, comic books and the like.

On a more positive note, collecting can be a fun and fascinating hobby. The main consideration for the “weekend collector” is to collect what you like.
As long as you really enjoy the items you’re busy gathering, it doesn’t matter all that much if there’s not market for them at a later date.
That being said, it’s still a good idea to know their worth (the internet’s usually a good resource here). While you may never part with your assembly of shiny hubcaps, no one likes being ripped off.
Also, bear in mind that if it was created to be a collectible, it’s more than likely not.
Collecting doesn’t need to be an expensive activity.
Many people collect items that are only a few dollars, or even pennies, but that doesn’t decrease the enjoyment they receive.
And usually it’s the thrill of the hunt that is the most fun of all!
