History

KRCG has been a Mid-Missouri institution since 1955. The original license for the station was granted to Betty Weldon.  Following the death of her father, Robert C. Goshorn, Mrs. Weldon christened the station KRCG in his honor.

At the time KRCG went on the air there was only one television outlet in Mid-Missouri, KOMU, which had access to all three networks. When KRCG signed on, we affiliated with CBS and have remained a CBS affiliate ever since. We're the only station in the market that has retained the same network affiliation throughout its existence. The other network affiliates in the market have switched networks twice.

In 1967, KRCG was sold to Mid-America Television Company, a subsidiary of Kansas City Southern Industries, which retained the station until 1985 ,when it was sold to Price Communications Corporation. After three years KRCG was sold to Mel Wheeler, Inc., which owned the station until March 2005, when KRCG was purchased by Barrington Broadcasting Company.

Our market is unique as the only television market in the state that serves only Missouri viewers. Our service area stretches to Mexico and Audrain County on the north, to Montgomery County and Hermann on the east, Sedalia on the west, and Rolla and the Lake of the Ozarks on the south.

KRCG has been serving Mid-Missouri for five decades. When we first went on the air, TV was only in black and white. Now we offer digital and high definition television. As television continues to evolve, we will evolve with it to bring you the best news and entertainment in the area.

We're dedicated to continuing our tradition of service to Mid-Missouri!
